2026 VISUAL TREND: HOLDING BACK

2026 VISUAL TREND: HOLDING BACK

Lately, I’ve been noticing a quiet shift in how we work.
Less noise. More intention.

To explore what that looks like in practice, I asked three colleagues at Think to share what they’re seeing from their side of the table. One from communication, one from visual design, and one from creative direction.

Different roles. Same underlying movement.

Next up is graphic design.

Best wishes,

2026 VISUAL TREND: HOLDING BACK

By Per Sonne, Graphic Designer

In 2026, many art directions are about not doing things, not adding another effect, not pushing the color, and not animating everything just because you can. When everything around you is loud and unstable, you start craving the opposite.

There’s a shift towards calmer palettes, simpler layouts, typography that’s easy to read and doesn’t beg for attention.

Big visual gestures can still work. But they must be earned. Otherwise, it just feels stressful.

Good design starts to feel a bit like a person you trust in a difficult moment. Someone who doesn’t overreact. Who knows when to speak and when to stay quiet.

The strongest visual identities in 2026 won’t try to impress; they’ll make people feel calm.
